Are they worth doing?

FRAGO is short for Fragmentary Order. 

A FRAGO is used to change or modify an Operation Order. Usually a side mission which still falls within the Commanders Intent and mission parameters. 

In the Wolverine 5K, FRAGOs are optional side quest, while on the orienteering route, that may/may not benefit your overall score depending on your  strategy.
